The Phive - Free Daily Sports Bets (9/15)

It was a meh start to the NFL season. I went just 7-6, but I did hit four of my top five bets of the week. As I said in my Week 1 bets article, I am pretty much forced to take four ATS, four totals, and four ML bets, so please pay attention to the order in which I rank the bets. If you did and only placed five bets, well you went 4-1 and had yourself a pretty good week.

I will be posting my Week 2 bets on Thursday morning so stay tuned for that.

We also hit two nice underdog bets with the Dallas Stars winning their series in five. The Stars have been my team this postseason. I hit them to win their first series 4-2 at +525, and just hit two separate bets of +105 and +205 on them here.

As for today, we have a Game 7, the first game of the Eastern Conference Finals, and the Islanders are on the brink of elimination.

Here's where we stand.

Eastern Conference Final Preview

Maybe I shouldn't put this bet right underneath my NBA playoff futures record, but I'm going to make my predictions anyway and you can go ahead and ignore if you would like. I made the mistake of going all favorites in the previous round and right now, I'm just 1-2 in the semifinals. However, I'm going with the favorites again. The Miami Heat have been outstanding in the bubble and have lost just one game since the playoffs began, but the Celtics are the best team in the East and may actually be the best team left in the entire postseason. I like the Celtics to take on the Lakers in the NBA Finals and with enough days between Game 7 against Toronto and Game 1 against the Heat, Miami no longer has a huge rest advantage. I'm going with the Celtics at a much cheaper price than I expected.

BET: Celtics -130

I don't see a series prop I like, which for all of you may be a good thing considering I'm currently 2-10 on series props int he postseason (one of them was +420 so we're barely down on units). But for this one, I'm taking a long shot and liking the Celtics to get this done in five games. Yes, you read that right. I like the Celtics to win in just five. Okay, maybe I don't love it, but the Celtics just beat who I thought was the best team in the East. The Heat haven't really been battle-tested yet because of how easy their road has been. This is far from a lock, but if you're looking for a long-shot bet, this is the one I like.

BET: Celtics 4-1 +500

As for today...

I'm taking the Celtics. They're going to win this game, and they're going to win it easily. I think their defense is too good for the Heat's offense. The Heat have been shooting lights out from three-point range, but the Celtics are not going to make life easy for them. The Celtics have too many weapons offensively and have numerous places to go when the game is on the line. The spread is less than a bucket. I love that.

BET: Celtics -1.5

Game 7

Another Game 7 in the NBA playoffs, and for the second time this year the Nuggets are one of the featured teams. I absolutely roasted the Nuggets after Game 1 and they have done nothing but prove me wrong since. I was on them in Game 5 at +8 and they not only covered but won. In Game 6, they trailed big yet again but somehow found a way to win big over the Clippers. They have all the momentum right now, and while I still think the Clippers are going to find a way to win, I'm taking the Nuggets to cover another huge spread.

BET: Nuggets +7.5

Bye, bye Islanders?

My underdogs have their backs against the wall, which is exactly where I want them. The Lightning thoroughly outplayed the Islanders in Game 4 and are likely on their way to the Stanley Cup Final. But the Islanders aren't done playing just yet. This team is at their best when all hope seems lost and that's exactly the scenario presented in Game 5. I like them to find a way to win this one and force a Game 6. I wouldn't even be surprised if this series goes 7.

BET: Islanders +143

That's all I have for today. As of this Wednesday, I will be doing my five best bets of the day for the MLB on BettingPros.com. I will be tweeting out the link every time I write and encourage you to follow along. Because I will be doing that article, I will not be having any MLB bets on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. As always, follow me on Twitter @Phil_Wood_Jr. I will see you all tomorrow.
