The Phive - Free Daily Sports Bets (8/13)
I have a good read on baseball right now. Not all the games. I would never make that claim. Baseball is way too random and there are way too many unknowns. But right now, I'm on fire. If you've been listening to "On The Card" you'll know that I've won four straight MLB bets. Now, I'm not betting a lot, but I'm doing my best bet every day, and so far, that best bet really has been the best bet. Tomorrow we go for five straight.
My other three bets were in the NHL, and I didn't do too bad there either. Though I am pulling the old school newspaper approach and not reporting the Canucks game yet. We can call it too late for the presses. This is a shame too, considering I may go 4-0 today! 4-0!! Hopefully, I didn't just jinx the Canucks.
UPDATE: We went 4-0!! Our best day yet! Congrats to everyone who followed along yesterday!
The Islanders fell behind 2-0 early but looked like the much better team throughout the game. They gave the Capitals seven power plays which is ultimately why they fell behind. However, when the teams were at even strength, the Islanders were clearly the better side. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Capitals score less than five goals in 5-on-5 hockey during this series.
Also, Carter Hart is playing out of his mind. Let's keep that up Flyers. One bad game so we can hit the Flyers in 5 bet, but nothing more than that, please.
Here's where we stand.
Chicago White Sox (-115) (W)
New York Islanders (+115) (W)
PHI/MTL under 5.5 goals (-130) (W)
Vancouver Canucks (+130) (W)
Record to this point:
Total 36-22 (4-5)
NBA 20-9 (1-1)
MLB 6-4 (0-1)
NHL 7-5 (2-3)
MLS 3-4 (1-1)
Futures in the mix:
Trail Blazers 8-seed (+400) - 8th place, .5 games up on Memphis
All hockey, no NBA!
I had a good read on the NBA, but it's gone. Things are just too random now. It's no longer about guessing who is the better side, but who is going to play who and what effort is going to look like. Tomorrow is the biggest day in the Western Conference, and I don't see anything I like right now. So on to the NHL.
I learned my lesson in game 1. This Chicago team cannot play with Vegas. Vegas is way better than them and had they tried to score in the first period, this game would have ended 7-1. I'm taking the Vegas Golden Knights over 3.5 until it doesn't happen once. And this is at the regular price of -110. It doesn't get much better than that. The Blackhawks defense isn't there and in this game, Vegas isn't going to start slow to feel out their opponents like they did in game 1.
BET: Vegas Golden Knights over 3.5 goals
For my next NHL bet, I'm looking at the Calgary vs Dallas series. Neither offense is very good. The Flames looked better in the first game than the Stars did, but I don't know if that's going to continue on throughout the series. However, what I am confident in is that neither team is going to score very much in this series. The Dallas offense is putrid, and the only way they are going to compete is if they keep the Flames off the board. I like them to do that here. However, I don't expect them to win. They could, but I expect nothing. Give me the under.
BET: DAL/CAL under 5.5 goals
For my final bet of the day (yes, only three today), I'm going to go with my favorite MLB bet for tomorrow. I'm looking at the Reds vs the Pirates. The Reds offense has been hit or miss of late, but I like them to hit here against Trevor Williams. The last time I went against Trevor Williams, he threw a seven-inning gem, but I don't think he does that again here against the Reds. The Reds are throwing Anthony DeSclafani on the mound and he has been great this season. In his first two starts, he's gone 11 innings, walked only one, and has yet to give up a run. I like him to continue his hot start against the Pirates and pull out the victory. However, I'm going to aim lower and eat a little juice. I'm taking the Reds outright through the first five. It's not pretty, but hey, a win is a win.
BET: Reds F5 3-way (-143)
