The Phive - Free Daily Sports Bets (9/8)
Welcome back to another edition of The Phive! I hope you all had a great Labor Day Weekend. Yesterday marked the start of what could go down as the most exciting week of sports ever. The NFL is back on Thursday as is the ACC. While that may not exactly seem exhilarating, most of us never thought we would get to this point. Yet here we are.
I will have my picks for some NFL games on Wednesday, but can't give them yet as Russell and I are in the midst of working on something for TRHS Sports, and I don't want to create any type of conflict of interest. Just know it is very likely that The Phive will look different shortly as "On The Card" starts to take on a new role as well.
I wrote the next paragraph prior to the fourth quarter:
Anyway, today we went just 1-2 (the Kawhi number came in higher than I wanted). Maybe the Clippers aren't as good as I thought they were. As weird as it is, they are actually getting outplayed defensively by the Nuggets. Which is insane considering the Nuggets don't play defense. Kawhi needs to get it together if the Clippers are going to have any chance at all. He just looks off.
Post fourth quarter, I will say the Clippers still don't look as good as they should right now. However, Kawhi looked great in the fourth quarter and made huge plays on both sides of the ball to wrap up the victory for LA. They need to be better though. This series should not be close.
Meanwhile, the Islanders have their work cut out for them. I'm hoping it was just a rest issue, and that they were in a letdown spot for Game 1, but they looked horrible compared to what we've seen so far this year.
Our one winner today: a 55-3 win for BYU who we got as underdogs. Are you kidding me? We're moving on.
Here's where we stand.
BYU +1.5 (W)

VGK gets one back
I like the Golden Knights to get one back against the Stars tomorrow, but that's not my play here. Go ahead and use that one for a parlay if you'd like, but to me, the number is still too expensive against a Dallas team that is playing really well right now. However, the bet I like here is the over. In both of their previous series, the first game went under for the Golden Knights, but that was then followed up by an offensive explosion in Game 2 from both teams. Both series went for seven goals in Game 2, and since I like Vegas to win this game, I like the scoring opportunities to come often for both teams.
BET: VGK/DAL over 5.5 goals
It's been a few days since I placed a bet on the MLB. The last time I did, we hit an easy LAD -1.5 for the first five innings. I'm coming back with another first five-inning bet, but this time looking at two teams hovering around .500. The Mets are facing the Orioles and the pitching matchup is far from great. The Orioles are throwing John Means on the mound, while Michael Wacha gets the start for the Mets. In his last two starts, Wacha has gone for just 3.0 innings in each but has given up six total earned runs. I like more of the same in this game, and I also like Means to give up runs. In his last start against the Mets, he went 5.1 innings and gave up eight hits and four earned runs. The run total isn't inflated so I'll take the over.
BET: NYM/BAL F5 over 5.5 runs
I don't really like the games today. The Bucks should be the walking dead, but I worry they pull out another inspired performance and somehow find a way to win. If the Heat were underdogs, I would take them, but I worry that even if they do close out the series they won't cover 2.5. The Lakers and Rockets are both so streaky that it makes it hard to know just which team is going to show up for each.
However, I like what this Rockets team is doing offensively right now. They were getting destroyed by the Lakers, but never gave up and made it a game late. Ultimately, they just didn't have enough left, but I do like them to keep competing against the Lakers as they work through this series. But I'm not going to take their spread, I'm going to take their team over. They went for 112 in Game 1 and 109 in Game 2, but I think Russ is going to calm down and stop making bad plays late which will ultimately get them more meaningful possessions late. I think this will be the highest-scoring game of the series to this point, but I'm more excited about the upside of the Rockets' offense than the Lakers.
BET: Rockets over 110.5
That's all I have for today. As I said, there will be changes coming especially when it comes to what I'm doing with Russell over at TRHS Sports, so keep an eye out for that. If you have any questions hit me up on Twitter @Phil_Wood_Jr
